LAW COMMITTEE. _ Sir Robert Stout brought up for consideration the following ad interim report of the Law Committee :— x LL.B. A judge of the Supreme Court has, however, to j decide whether the passing of such an examination is sufficient to exempt him from paxßing the I I general knowledge examination in New Zealand. { The foregoing pass in conditional- on a judge so j deciding and also deciding that the evidence of I j his having passed such an examination is satis- ! factory. It was resolved that the candidates reported as having passed be recorded as having passed accordingly. ■ MEDICAL COMMITTEE. The ad interim report of the Medical Committee, as published on Saturday, was adopted. THIS LOST EXAMINATION PAPEBS. Professor Sale brought up the .following ad interim report of the committee: — The committee recommend (1) that the fresh examination ordered by the senate to be held in certain cases be held at some time between Monday, the 21st day of March, and Saturday, the 9th day of April; the exact date to be fixed in each case by the professorial boards or by the boards of examiners; (2) that a circular be at once sent to each candidate who may possibly have to present himself for examination, inform- : in# him of the arrangements made, and that the circular be accompanied by a printed copy of the recommendations made by the committee and adopted by the senate. ' Dr Fitchett moved as an amendment to add at the end of clause 1, " Provided that in any case where tbe college examinations cover less than the wuolb of the subjects taken at the university txaminations in November, 1897, ths c.iodidata may present himself at the ordinary examinations in November, 1898, in any subject ; not so covered instead of at such fresh ezami- ' nation." j Bishop Cowie seconded the amendment. | The Chancellor ruled the amendment out o£ order on the ground that the question had already been disposed of by the senate. I The report wa» adopted. '
! The Hon. W. Rolleston, referring to the ] lossoE the papers, said the question was one of ! ! much interest to the public,'and before the i afcnate rose he thought they should have before them a definite statement of the' facts of the case, which would relieve them of any imputation of carelessuess in tbe matter. . The Chancellor said that before the proceedings of the senate commenced he gave the members all the information available ia the matter, and laid on the table letters from the ■ shipping agents. His statement appeared in ■ the paper. i Sir R; Stobt . thought the question was one that ought to be referred to the committee to ; bring up a report explaining the whole matter. .\ The Hon. W. .Rollbston said he would move on Monday tost the committee be requested to. bring up a further. explanation of the despatch of the examination papers. %1 . .
