WELCOME TO MR T. K. SIDEY.

A conversazione was held in the Cavershara Presbyterian Church hall last night for tha purpose of welcoming home Mr T. K.Sidey oa his return from a trip to the old country. The hall had been nicely decorated for the occasion with pot plants, flowers, and ferns, and presented a very attractive appearance. His Worship the Mayor of Cavereham (Mr H. X Wilkinson) presided, and there was a good representative gathering of the citizens oE Caversham, as well as a number of Mr Sidey's friends from other places. The Mayor, in a brief speech, welcomed Mr Sidey back to Caversham on behalf of those present, and referred, to the zealous manner in which that gentleman had, while a resident of the place, performed his duties as a membac of the local school committee and aiso as a. member of ;the borough council. Mr Sidey subsequently'thanked the assemblage for the cordial reception accorded him, and gave some account of his trip to the old country, mentioning the place 3he had visited aad some of the impressions created in his mind by what he had seen,, and especially by the Jubilee festivities in England. A musical programme interspersed with conversation was afterwards carried oat, the efforts of a ilthe performers bei'n"greatly appreciated. Miss Caldow played » piano solo and Mr Dick a piccolo solo' Mr Abel sang "The bugler," Miss Evans " Killarney," Mr Caldow "When night is darkest," Mr Nimmo " Echo," Miss Black " When we meet," aud Mies Fergusson *fCome, buy my flowers." Recitations were contributed by Me Stevenson and Mr Bseson, and a very pleasant evening was brought to a conclusion by the whole company joining Jn the singing of " Auld laDgsyne."
