SMOKE CONCERT,
A most enjoyable smoke concert was hdd in the Shamrock Hotel last evening by the United Ancient Order of Druids, to celfbrate «he installation of the District Grand Lodge officers A bountiful feast was provided by Messes Coghlaß Brothers, and was done ample justiceto by. the 60 persons present. The District trrand President, Bro. B. Osborne, presided. Ike evening was diversified by the honouring ot toasis, the contribution of solo items, and a varied selection of music by Bro. Briggs's band, everything passing off as merrily as the traditionai marriage bells. The principal toasts honoured were "The Queen" ' The Druids," "Grand Lodge of Victoria and Kindred Grand Lodges " (proposed by Bro. Morrison. 85. H.R., PDGP and responded to by P.D.P. Bro. J. Haymes) * Ihe District Groud Lodge of Otago and t Southland ■•' (proposed by P.D.P. Bro. B Harneiss, and responded to by P.D.P. Bro G Menzies and P.D.P. Bro. W. Lock). "Tee Health of the P.D.G. .President Bro. A. Bjornson " (proposed by the Chairman), and Bro. Morrison responded in a speech which was received with repeated applause. His remark | that; at an early dace the meetings of the j District Grand Lodge would take place at | Invercargiil, Oamaru, Gore, or Palmersfcon wos | especially well received. He thanked Bro: Reid, I of Tasmania, for bis kindly present of floral ] tributes to the District Grand officers. The remaining toasts were:—" District Grand President, Bro. E. Osborne" (proposed by P.A. Bro. S. P. Stewart, and responded to very fittingly); "Kindred Societies" (proposed by Past Arch Bro. Reid, of Tas- I mania, received with musical honours, J and responded to by Bro. R. Slater ! and Bro. J. G. Butler), and "The Press" (proposed by the D.G. secretary, Bro. A. H. Shel- I ton, who said that the press had ever been < kind to frieudiy uocieties, and in conclusion also proposed " Our Hosts." and did justice to the splendid spread which had been set before 1 tne brethren. Bro. Morrison responded on behalf of the press, and Mr M. Conghlan for the hosts. Songs were contributed during the evening by Bros. Brookman, Bagar, T Borrow, R. H. DanieTa, J. Knight, J. Haymes, and Hansen. Bro. Lstnon played the accompaniments in capital style, and the proceedings coucluded with " Auld langsyne."
The quarterly summoned meeting of the All Nations Lodge No. 172 was held in the Friendly Societies' Hfell, Port Chalmers, last Wednesday evening. A.D. Bro. J. M. Harland occupied the chnir. An official visit was received from Ivanhoe Lodge. D.P. Bro. Harneisa, of 44 District, and P.S. Bro. Reid, of Oak Leaf Lodge. Tasmania, were also present. D.P. Bro. Stron&ch, assisted by P.D.P.'e Bros. Haymes, Wynn, and HarDies3, installed the newly-appointed D.P., Bro J. S. Gibb, as District President of No. 19 District for the ensuing term. The lodge then went into harmony, when songs, recitations, &c, were rendered. Refreshments were also passed round, and altogether a very enjoyable evening was spent. The receipts of the 'eveaiug amounted to £33 6n 2d.
