WOOL SALES.
; The final wool sale of ihe season tookplase-j in the Victoria Hul (Agricultural Buildings) yesterday afternoon. Thers was a fair attenc- : ance of bidders, but cne or two fs,!ni!i%r fases were missing. Tbe qualiby of (lie wool was iu-' ferior.' Some 1724- bales were offered, as ag'iu.st 1635 last year. The catalogues'of the various brokers were a3 follow': — •'.'■''" Bales. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company ... ... ... 515 Wright, .Stephcaann, and' Co.. ... The bulk of the ■wool offered was nuc-ssarily low in quality, catalogues containing fi>r ihe most part oddi ments and Btragglew. Prices realised were about on a pay with those ruling at last sale, and in a j few ca-es a slight advance was -made on passsd-in lots. "We offered 72 bales, and sold every lot uuder the hammer with the exception of one. ; The wool offered by us was only inferior to;, medium quality, and the followir-g arc the ranges of prices realised :—Halfbred, 5Jd to &jd; crossbred, sid to 6:1-1; merino, 5d to (iid ; bellies, 3JA to i .4J-I; pieces, 3d to 4J.1. • ■ • •■■ . j Metsrs Donald. lleid and Co. report:-We i held our fourth and fiual sale ->f the season's,'; iseries at .the .Agricultural-Hal;, Crawford.street, \ Dnneiio] on (he 2-lth Februnry. Thera was a full j attendance of buyers, considei-ing-the -small citi- ' logue^ submitted. Most of tlie wool offered at ! .this hale was of a mixed -character—bnrry wool, j 'stragglers' clips, pieces, and oddmeDt.--. Bidding, ( however was very brisk, all sorts finding buyers, ! and prices were quite up to, aud in some cases in I advance of, thns-; reilised at our last sala. Our catalogue comprised 141 bales, of which 113 were sold at auction and 28 passed iD, which we ! expect to place privately at valuations. j • ihe New Zealand Loan and Mercantile I Agkncv Company- (Limited) report :—We held, our fourth wool sale of the season at the Aeri- j cultural Hall, Dauedin, when we submitted to I auction 515 bales, of which numbe? we sold 450. | There was. a representative gathering of buyers, I and prices ruled on a par with those of last sales.. Our catalogue shows the following rates :—Halfbred from rjjl to S.V-i, tbres-qnarterbred. and crossbred from (jd to 71d,. meriuo- from !ii<l to 7d, aud pieces from SJ-d to sd. Competition was fairly keen for all sort 3, and although the big prices of last sale were not forthcoming this fact only meaus that the wool was riot'thern, and we think that we are justified in sayiug that prices-, iuled as hi«h yesterday as on the occasion of any previous sale-, quality considered.
Messrs Wright, Stepuicsso.v, and Co. report as follows :•—The fourth arid last series of Dunedin wool sales for thi<, season was held in the Victoria Hail; Agricultural Building=s,on Thursday, FobruM-y 21, when 1712 bales were offered by the different firms of woolbrokers. Out of this number we catalogued 367 balfls, and since last sale we have uold privately and at auction 452. Considering the poor selection of wools) offered there, was a splendi 1 attendance of buyers, all sections of the tr*de being present. Competition for all descriptions wis nrost animated, especially for any wool showing quality and style. Vrices if anything show a slight advance, particularly in merino'fi and fine'halfbreds, but for strong, wasty, and shabby crossbreds the prices were somewhat irregular, although these in most cases sold at full rates. Pieces, bellies,' and locks were in good demand, and prices for these in some cases showed a remarkable advance on those ruling~at last sale. The followum are the highest prices obtained for wools offered by us :—H'alfbred S^d, crossbred Sd, lambawool (?J-tl, tbres-quirterbnM 71';!, merino 7W, pieces Gd,. bellies 5Jd, locks 3J<l. liut as there were no really ,su»>:rior qualities on ouv catalogue these can hardly br; given as current values, which are as follow :—
We shall hoH periodical sales of wool fortnightly I from now-on. . I The Fakmers' Agency Company (Limited) report: —We held oun fourth wool sale on Thursday, 2-ith February, 'i'he catalogues offered totalled about 1250 bales, and comprised for the most part passed-in lots from previous sales, late shorn parcels, and oddmeuts —very little choice quality, beiug offered. All the buyers that have attended former sales were present, and bid freely enough for eve;y lot; and with an exception, where vendors' rescves were high, everything found buyers at price? fuliy equal to those ruling at the lust sale, and in some instances held-over lots showed a. slight advance. Considering the wools offered tto-duy wera earthy, wasty, and decidedly off-colour, the sales throughout must be considered satisfactory. We catalogued 253 bales, and quote values follows:—Bright greasy halfbred, 8d to S}d; medium do, 6'J-d
to 7Jd ; dark and wasty do, skl to (jjd ; bright rrosjhred, 7!} dto RVd ; inedinm - do, l!J-} to "J-d ; dark, earthy do, 5 i to 6{d ; best in---, jsj--», tisd to rid; medium do, Sid to fi}d; d:';iv and inferior, 4M to 51-.1; bestpiec.es, 4.Yd to c-.l : :r.h -r ilo, 3d ro 4£l ; bellies, 2-id to iid ; locks, 7} > :o i-'jd ; slipe halfOred, 7d to BJd- . Messrs Stko.nach Bkor. and Morris report :— We lifld our fourth tale of the season at the .Victoria Hall (Agricultural Building.*), when there was a good attendance of. buyers. Toe bulk "f the catalogues were . composed of'oddmerit?, very fewgooi wools, being;offered. Prices ! \vev« a»|te on a pur with ihos^ ruling at la»t sales, | and bidding w.is brisk-up to late quotntions. We j submitted asm ill .catalogue comprising 10S bales, i and sold neaily the whole at values that must ■ be "satisfactjuy 'o vendors. The following i prices were obtained :—Crossbred 3Jd to SJd, I mcriuo ewe 6j, lulfbrvd do GJd. crossbred ■hogget 6}rl, crossbred ewe (part merino) 4Jd, pieces 311, locks and piec-is 2JJ, deud wool 5Jd, merino {part merin-i bellies) sd, merino bailies 4id, merino pieces 4h\, dead wool (dingy and locks and pieces) 3d, crosslired hogr;et 7J<l, crossbred pieces aud belli-s 4J-1, merino ewe 6kl, fl^e-e BJd, pieces and lie.llics 4}d, locks lid, dead wool -^Jl, dead wool 4J-1 to 3d, combing merino (nne part clotbi g -merino) fail, clothing merino sid, .lialfbreJ fleece ar.d lirst fitfees sd, second p^ece^ 3Jd, bellies and locks 2Jd, halfbred hogc«ts sid. fArst. merino 7-Jd, first combing lialfbred 7Jd.aid 71d, seedy ■iid, s^cr.nd crossbred sid. I Messrs Dai.gictv and Co. (Limited) report hiving held their fourth sale for, this season. Their o.italogus comprised 3(52 lialci, of which they sold ilB. For every,,description there was a : (rood demand, and values ruled quite equal to j those obtained at last sales. Their catilngue was j made up principally of od<iment^, a -small prupnrI tion "only beins sood fleece woo! and piece.?. For [ fleece wool their highest price was Sii, obtained ; for a nice lot of fine crossjjred, and for pieces 7Jd | Mas realised for fine halfbred. f Messrs Mori'jzson and Hopkin report having j held their last'sale of the season, when there was | a large a!te7;dairee of b iyers. The catalogues ; w«-rt made up principally of medium and low i quality wools, but all descriptions were eagerly [ competed for, and prices mlad very firm at equal !to Jh'-se of tho last fides. I'or fine wools the com- [ petition was particularly keen, and in s-'ine in- ; stances an advance of id pur lb was obtained on | ln,te, rates. They offered US bales, and cleared almost the lot-by auction and privately after the sal«.
