Regarding Henry Nind's letter, the committee reported that ths cost of laying fivejchAins of 6ia drainage pipe wou'd bs £15. The coißraittea had accepted Pat«r.»on and Batr's tender for .water pipes at 60 per cent, off price lub, and Thomson and Bridget's tender,for £iv pipes at £3 4-s each. The Mayor1 aad Or Burgess had besii instructed to interview the railway engineer re the drain : behind Porcsr's Hotel] The commutes had decided to give- Mr Mackridga I* days' notice to c6une.cb:the drainage of his house on Wilkie road to, the borough's drain. Messrs Thomson, Bridger, and Co. wr.dte withdrawing their tender, as they had tendered for tho whole supply.—The: nintter of the tender was referred back to the committee, and the report as smanded was adopted. • - The Works Committee recommended that steps b8 put on ths footpath afc Mount Pieasaut at a cost of £2. . The committee reported that the kerbing taken up' on M*inJ3<mth road was in a fair condition. It would requira ab.int four lengths of new. kerbing to relay it. The cost of concrets kerbing woald be £2 2s par chain, the cost of concrete channelling £2 10a a chain, stone kerbing £2 4s a chain, cost of asphalting tbe footpath Main South road from M'CrackenV to' weighbridge' 10$ wide £3 a chain. The committee had deferred consideration of the letters ' from D. Swan and the Mornington Council, and also the question of removing mud from Cargill arid St.. Kilda roads.—The report was adopted. The Inspector reported on the' work of the daymen niuce last meeting.—Adopbed. The Finance Committee reported that the sum of £51 12s had been lodged in the bank since last meeting, and recommended that £31 8s lOd general account, £7.65.4-d water supply account, 2s 6d No. 3 account,, and 2s 6d No. 4 account be passed tor payment;. The committee referred to the town'clerk, with power to act, a case for the recovery of the 10 per cent, on unpaid-rate?.—Adopted.
Messrs Cowie and Spatz complained of the drainage from the council's'building'running through their property.—Referred to the inspector to report., ■ .Messrs F. W. Petre, H. B. Morrison, and A. IG. Fenwick wrote with regard to-the erection of a lamp at the corner of Beach street and the Esplanade. Letters applying for lamps in other parts of tue borough were also received.— The whola question of the 'lighting of the borough was referred to the Finance Committee tc- report. Mr F. Wilkinson drew attention to the" state of- Norfolk street at its junction with Queen street.—Rsferred to the Works Committee to report. Messrs C. and W.'Shiel wrote asking that a few chains of Surrey ro/id bs made fit for traffic.—Referred to the Works Committee to report. ' ■ • ■ . ' Mrs Ellen Mathison'- drew attention to a gutter iv Maria street. —Referred to the inspector.
Mr Fred Smith, factor of the Presbyterian Church Board of Property, wrote that that body agreed to grant a smajl part of section 6 for the purpose of widening the rdacT'o'n cbri-! difcioti th:it the council bear the expense of shifting the shed and hedge and erect a close fence along the new boundary and build a. small retaining wall at the bottom'of the bauk. — Referred to the Works Committee to report. Mr George Edward complained of an alleged nuisance emanating from M,r Markham Brown's rope works. —Referred to the inapactor to report. , ■ It was resolved that Mr Morrison, M.H.R , be cocamuuicated with to ascertain what steps were necessary to get authority to speua the money received in connection with the Anderson's Bay road. The Mayor reported that tha lawyer's advice as to the position of the weighbridge had not yet been received. It wrb unanimously decided to donate £5 to the Jubilee demonstration fund.
