(Received February 24, at 10.15 a.m.) The Government steamer Thetis has returned from an experimental deep-sea trawling expedition along the coast, which proved bigbly successful. In less than four days the Thetis captured between 8000 and 10,000 fish. WESLEYAN CONFERENCE. The Rev. E. J. Rodd has been elected president of the Wee>leyan Conference. UNION STEAM SHIP COMPANY, (Received February 24, at 9.30 p.m.) Mr James Mills, managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company, who is at present in Sydney, has arranged for a fine suite of offices in the Equitable Buildings, in the centre of the city, to accommodate the Sjdney branch of the company. FRESH FIRES IN GIPPSLAND. Melbourne, February 24. (Received February 24, at 10.15 a.m.) A recurrence of the heat wave is reported. Disastrous bash fires are raging in Gippslacd and other districts. A DESTRUCTIVE FIRE. Adelaide, February 24. (Received February 24, at 9.30 p.m.) ■ Honey's timber yard at Port Adelaide hat been destroyed by fire. The damage amonnts to L7OOO.
