W quote prime velvet:Up to 4s sd;.Tuscan, 4s 5d red sorts. 4s 4d; whole fowl feed, 3s 6d to 3s 8d broken, 3s to 3s 4d (bags in). Barley.—Maltsters and brewers are in tb market for prime quality, and during the wee! 50,000 bushels have changed hands at a good pric to growers. We ask those who have any to seni us their samples, as we have a good,outlet for thi cereal and can promise them full values. Chaff. —Prime oaten sheaf up to £4. ' _. o WEEKLY MARKET REPORT. *, Messrs Moritzson and Hopkin report fc week endini February 23 :— Wheat.—The demand ia not very active owin to the local mills being well stocked, and buyer are holding off to see how the market opens fo tbe new season's crop. We have inquiric for prime velvet, and can place same at quota tions. We quote, nominally : Best velvet-
] Oamaru 4s 7d, south 4s 4d ; beat Tuscan—OamarU I 4s 6d, south 4s 3d ; red chaff, 4s 3d ; fowls' wheat, ! 3s 3d to 3s7d. Oats: The market is hardly so brisk, but prices are withoht alteration. We quote: Best feed, 2s to 2s ld; medium, ls lid to Is lljd per bushel; Sutherlands, 2s 3d. Barley: Feed sorts are quoted at 2s 3d to 2s 61 ; milling. 3s to 3s 3d ;- malting, from 4s to 4s Bd. Kyecorn, 3s 3d. Flour: We quote £11. Oatmeal in 25's, £11 103. Pearl barley, £16. Bran, £3. Pollard, £3155. Nelson hops are quoted at lOjd to Is. Chaff : Market overstocked at present, and prices have declined 10s per ton. Prime, £3 10s to £3 I2s 6d ; medium, £3 to £3 7s 6d. Ryegrass : The demand is good for small sboity seed. We have large orders to fill, andean place any quantity. Farmers" dressed. 2s to 2-p 101 ; machined, 3s 3d to 4s. Cocksfoot, 2Jd to 3Jd for farmers' lots, and 4Jd to sid ior machined. We sell by auction every Monday. : Sheepskins.—AVe held our usual weekly sale ou Tuesday, when we offered a large catalogue. Competition was brisk and prices ruled very firm. Dry crossbreds brought from 2s 6d to 5s 9d; inferior, ls 3d to 2s 4d; dry pelts, Id to 9d; dry merinos, 2s 3d to ss; inferior, ls to 2s ; green pelts, 6d to ls 9d ; green lambskins, 9d to ls 9d each. We undertake country clearing sales. FRUIT AND PRODUCE REPORT. Butter: Prime salt, to 6*4; medium, 3d, to id. Butter cases, with parchments, 18s per dozen. Cheese : Good Akaroa, 32-d ; factory, 4d to 4Jd. Pigs.—For good quality, 3id to 3|d. Poultry received for sale any day. Roosters - (young), 3s to 3s 6d ; hens, 2s to 2s 3d; ducks (young), 3s to 4s, according to quality. ■' Beeßwax (wanted), ls to Is 4d tor prime quality. Fruit.—We receive consignments of all kinds of fruit and garden produce, which we sell either, by auction or privately, a3 we think besVin the interests of consignors. Plums, lid to 2d; apricots. 2Jd to 4d ; peaches, 2Jd to sd; tomatoes, 3d to 5d per lb ; bananas, 2d to 2Jd per lb. . . _ We beg to give our numerous friends notice that we have now erected seed-cleaning machinery to enable us to treat 600 sacks in 24 hours, also that Messrs Andrews and- Beaven have written us that'our cocksfoot machine burnt at their late fire at Christchurch is now well on to completion, and will be erected in ten days. We have also erected a new ryegrass plant to cope with the work. We have inquiry for 10,000 sacks ryegrass, and would ask tanners to. forward samples, and consign all seed to our private siding. . ' ' a. — GRAIN. AND PRODUCE REPORT. Messrs William E. Reynolds and Co., Bond street, report for week ending 23rd' inst. as follows: — *.■..... Wheat.—There is very little alteration to note, and so far we have seen no new samples from the ' south. IWo quote: 4s 6d for prime velvet, 4s 4d • to 4s 5i for Tuscan, red sorts 4s 2d to, 4s 3d, fowl feed 3s 7d to 3s Bd. Sy Oats are practically without alteration of any '. kind, and owing to the Australian and Tasmanian harvests mow being iv the demand is by nd means • too good. Holders, however, are firm, and conse--1 quently prices have not eased during the week. ! We quote: Prime Sutherlands nominally, up to 2s 3d; tiest sparrowbills, up to 2s Id ;. good sound, 2s to 2s OJd ; ordinary, ls lOd to Is Hid. Barley.—Some new grain has shown itself on the market from the north, and it, is very evident 1 prices are going to rule high. Chaff.—Far too much came m during the week for requirements, and the market dropped Considerably. '■■' Potatoes.—These have also come forward rather freely, aud price in, consequence has eased, £4 10a ; to £5 being the outside price for'best quality. : Ryegrass.—The new seed is now offering freely, i' in fact.more so than was expected by the-trade, 7 considering the very rough weather experienced- ■ lately.
