The B.s. Pakeha, from Oamaru, arrived early yesterday morning and was berthed at the George street pier* where sHe at bace commenced to take cargo for London. < The s.s. Rotoniahana, from Sydney, via Wellington "and Lytteltqn, arrived alongside-the *°?Sn pIM at 9 \ m- yesterday.rday. She left Sydiieyat 2.30 p.m. oa the 12th inst. with a fresh breeze from the N.E., which gradually increased to a Btrong gale, with thick, dirty weather and hiah »ea.. On the night of the 13th the sea had increased to such au extent that it was found neeeseary to slow down the engines. The gale continued during the whole of the 14th, during which the-vessel at times shipped heavy seas. On the morning of the 15th the wind and sea somewhat abated, and at 7.3o_the engines were put full speed. ihe. weather being still thick and it being utterly impossible to get any observation, at 8 p.m on the 17th the engines were again put dead 81oy# owing to the heavy fog.
