«— — ■ A pleasing little ceremony was enacted a parade bf the Dunedin Naval Artillery on Tuesday night, when the opportunity wan. taken of presenting tbe lieutenant-commanding (Mr James Allen M.H.R.) with a handsome travelling "case on the eve of his departure for Europe. Lieutenant Dunlop made, the presentation on. behalf of the men in a few suitable words, and Lieu-tenant-commanding Allen made an appropriate

Blenkinsopp made the presentation, and in doing so congratulated Bro. M'lndoe on his approaching marriage, and wished iiiui every "■happiness in his ■ married life Bro M'lh.oe responded in suitable terms. Mr A. Garrick, on the eve of severing his connection with tbe firm of Simon Bros., was presented by the employees.with a handsome gold albert as a token of their esteem and respect. He was also presented .with a gift from the nrm. Mr' John Simon made tbe piesentations, and in doing so referred to the many excellent qualities possessed by Mr Garrick and to the &steem m which he was held. He also expressed regret at; losing his services. . .
The weekly meeting of the Pioneer Lodge, No. 2 I O G.T., was held in the Lower Choral Hall on Tuesday evening. Bro. D. Cameron, C.r._ presided:" Two new members were elected. Bto. Parkinson, D.D., was present, and gave a short address, urging members to work unselfishly ioi tbegooa of the order, and finally wishing them all a prosperous^ and happy New _ ear. Bro, M'lndoe conveysd fraternal greetings fromttt. Star of Reefton Lodge and Bro. Hay fronvv_.r.ous Nelson lodge 3. It was decided that next luesctay be "pound" night, and members of sister lodges and country members'are cordially invited. .Harmony being called Bro. Himmel contributed a liianoforte so'o, aud songs were given^by Bros. Turnbull aud Hegavfcy,and Sisiers liirnbuli,bewliirst, and Moffat., and a recitation by bis. Clarke. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the l>.r>. and other visitors. Bros, iurnbull (Mosgiel), M'lndoe (Star of Reefton) Randall (Star-"of Freedom), Strachan (Star of Rosiyn), Clarke (Hope of Ounedin) replied. Bro. Himmel accompanied during the evening:.
It is rumoured that Sir William MacGregor, Governor of New Guinea,, will be appointed Governor of the Gold Coast Colony (West Africa), in succession to the late bit W. E. Maxwell.
