At this festive season of the year the thoughts of those who possess comfortable homea rerert instinetiTely to the position or the many who are les9 . fortunate. Hence the benevolent seek out and assist those who are in distress, and many a humble home has ife gloom relieved by a elimpse or comfort and freedom from momentary anxiety that may, indeed, be only fleeting in its nature, but is none the kss creditable to the heart of the-giver. Hence it is also that the wards of the Hospital and cr the Benevolent Institution are illuminated with flowers and cheered with the bright glances of sympathetic men and women whose mission is kindliness itself. Hence also the juvenile waifs and strays of the population receive kindly attention, and the records of the Industrial .School bear honourable testimony to the thoughtfulness of many who have year after year remembered the little ones and have for one day s*t least endeavoured to make them forget that the world has been cruel to them. It is a fitting time, then, in a few lines, to draw attention to 'what the community does in its anxiety !to repair the wrong done to a number jof children, who, if surrounded by a happier environment, would have bean free" from the danger of becoming I criminals, and to others who, through
