Auckland, December 27. The Championship tennis tournament was opened today. There was a splendid attendance, tho lawns were in good order, and play ! was interesting. Large fields were the order o£ the day at the cycling carnival at Wanganni. Bu-ker (of Chriotchurcb) won the points prize, being first in the Grand Cycle Handicip, Three-mile event, and First Glass Scratch Race. Tierney (of Auckland) was second for tha points prize, and E. J. Ritchie was the beat o£ the Wanganui riders.
Tbe second payment (and name of the horse) for the Tauutia'Cup, of 20(hovs, is due this evening, with the secretary of the Tahuui Park Trottiiig Club. . .-■'.• -
