Pukaki steamed down from Dunedin yesterday morning, took in transhipments ex Aotea at the export pier, and sailed in the afternoon for Sydney, via the Bluff. The s.s. Aotea was discharging railway iron at its George street pier yesterday, and took on board 1600 crates frozen rabbits and 400 do frozen The s.s. Taupo, coal-laden from Westport, arrived at 11 a.m. yesterday, and steamed alongside the Fifeshire to discharge part cargo. &he left Weatport at 11 p.m. on the 31st wit., and experienced strong N.E. winds with thick weather from Akaroa to arrival. The s.b. Te Anau steamed down the harbour yesterday forenoon, and left Port Chalmers in the afternoon for Lyttelton and "Wellington. The s.s. Talune will proceed to Port Cnalmers this morning, and leave in the afternoon for Sydnoy, via Cook Strait. A strong, black north-easter blew all yesterday, nad was accompanied by a very heavy sea—so much so that the danger signals were hoisted at Otago Heads. With the first S. W. wind we look for the arrival of the ship Oamaru, Captain Fullarton, fiom London, which port she left on May 20, and is consequently 107 days out. The barquentine FranE Guy will sail for Lytttlton and Xaipara with the first fair wind. The schooner Marmiou is discharging cargo at the Kattray street wharf. The brigantine Enterprise is loading for Timaru and Wangaaui at the Jetty street wharf. The s.s. Omapere left the Rattray street wharf 7BSterday afternoon for the West Coast, via JCimaru. The s.s. Mararoa, which arrives from Sydney to fiay, leaves to-morrow for Wellington direct. The sis. Waihora, from Sydney and the East Coast ports, arrives at Dunedin to-morrow. The s.s. Mouowai leaves Port Chalmers tomorrow for Melbourne, via the Bluff aud Hobart. Another of the fast decreasing band of the old Identities has passed over to the majority in the person of the late Captain Abraham Paiiner, who will be well known to all old West Coastcr3 in the good old days when be commanded the Charles JMward and the Wallaby steamers, and was trading down to tbe "West Coast ports for more than 23 years. He ariginally arrived in Lyttelton in the year 1854, and up to within the last few years has been continually employed on the coast of New Zealand from the extreme north to the extreme south. Us was » man of quiet, unassuming manners, a iplendid Eailor, 2nd a general favourite with the travelling public of his day. For the last few yesrs he had been living in retirement.
