BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SOUfH DUNEDIN.

The ordinary ineetiDg of the South Dunedin Council, held laat evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr Charles Fisher), Crs Kane, M'Key, Osborne, Fiddis, Thomas, Shacklock, and Holley. The Finance Committee recommended that the municipal account (£26 Ms ss) and sanitary account (£l6 13s 4d) be passed for payment. The bsli-.Lces of the several accouuts were : Dabifc municipal account. £882 14s 3d ; debit water supply account, £183 7s 8d; credit sanitary account, £89 16s 7d; debit interest account, £1854- 19s 4d. Mr H. M-L&ughUu drew, attention to the ttate of the footpath in front of Mr Quick's house in Oamond street. — Consideration deferred. A number of ratepayers in Helena street requested that the footpaths bs asphalted before the bad weather set ia. Children used the ro&d going to and from the Macandrew road school, and the footpaths wera very bad in winter time.—Referred to the Works Committee to report.

PORT CHALMERS

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Post Chalmers Council was attended yesterday evening by the M»yor (Mr W. M. Innes), Crs Cameron. Dawson, Weir, Inverarifcy, Thomson, Edgar, Watson, Pedlow, Wilson, Sutton, Leach, and Murray. On the motion of Cr Wilson it was resolved that all alterations made in the valuation roll and entered ia the rate book be initialled by the mayor and clerk, REPORTS. The Works Committee reported the work done by the inspector and staff since the 19th March in addition to the usual street cleaning Adopted. a' The Finance Committee recommenaed the payment of accounts amounting to £53 17s, and reported that there bad been received since last meeting £69 19a 6d for the general account and £49 13a 3d for the water account making a total of £119 12i 9d. DISCLOSING INFORMATION. Cr Weir asked if the Reserves Committee had arranged in reference to Mr M'Laucalan's lease. Cr Pedlow (chairman of the Reserves Committee) aaid that oifWed/iesday the award was delivered, to the town ci«rk, and when the committeo met on Thursday they fowtd f,he lettac had been tampered with. He Ihea put in a papor, and addressing the envelope to the town clerk sealed it. As he (the clerk) could not find Ci\ Pedlow he took the letter to the mayor, who opened it, but on seeing' it was the award at occe closed the envelope and returned it to him. It was then placed in the safe. Cr Cameron said that he did not infer that it was his Worship who spread the news. Cr Weir said it had been an unfortunate bu-iiness throughout. The council appointed Mr Samson a3 their valuer, and hit M'Lauohlan had appointed Mr Foote. As they could not agree Mr Duncan was appointed umpire. As the valuation had been made he moved that it b» read to fcUe council. Cr Invbraritv seconded the niotiorU An amendment by Cr Sutton that the contents of the letters be not read was seconded by Cr Pedlow, aud carried by 7 to 5. The council then went iuto committee.
