ROSLYN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Roslyn Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr L. Kemnitz) and Crs Begg, Scott, Philp, Wedderspoon, Blackwood, Wilson, Miliar, Drew, Sim, and Watson. . BEPORXS. , The Works Committee .recommended that Mr John Dickinson be allowed to erect a picket fence encroaching 18m qn**J.ervois street to protect his live hedge, the fence to remain during the, pleasure of the council; that a concrete channel be laid for about one chain in length in James street conditionally ori Mrs M'Leod agreeing fco pay one-third of the cost; that the' olfer of Mr W. Ford to load cUy and take the same into-his section iri order to keep'up'the road be accepted; thafc the letter of Mr -jTas. Sim, agreeirig to paj- half Cost of concrete kerb aud channel in front of his' property in Little-. bourne, be received ; that, with reference to the memorial from Clyde street, the footpath afc the bottom of the street be lowered to the proper level and asphalted at a cost nofc exceeding 255; fchafc a path in front of Mr Ross's houses facing the Town Belt be made, providing Mr. Ross, pay half cost; thot tenders' be invited for the supply of 200 yards of maintenance metal for the Main North Taieri and City roads ; that the council grant permission during its pleasure, and so. long as no nuisance was caused, to Mr Hickman to | bury nightsoil on the ground occupied by Mr Mills adjoining the district road; that the Duuedin City Council be 'asked to co-operate wifch the , Eoslyn Council in asphalting the Town Belt footpath between the site of the old toll bar on City road to the' corner of the cemetery, to the extent of providing one-half the cost; that the tender of R; Miller and Co., for kerbing and chaunelliug in. Bruce street for £8 Bs, and channelling in Leven street for £4 10s, with £1 for water, be accepted.—Adopted. The Finance Committee recommended that I the clerk be instructed to draw the Treasury's attention to the council's letters notifying that the banking account was afc fche Union Bank of Australia, and to inquire the reason of payments from the Government to the borough being lodged in the B»nk of New Zealand. Accounts amounting to £164* 5s 4d were passed for payment. The bank overdraft was £780.— Adopted. . ' The inspector's report, which dealt with variouß small works, was adopted. correspondence; Mr T. W. Kempthome wrote that he had purchased Mr Eraser's interest' in section 13, Wakari district, and section 12, block XIV, Upper Kaikorai, and requested the council to join him in fencing the road which passed through the property.—Referred to the Works ! Committee.
Mr T. Holden wrote with regard to the state of Broughton street.—Referred fco the inspector for a report.
SURFACE WORK. | Cr MiLLAit moved—"That tenders be called for surfacing in the Borough of Roslvn from lst April, 1897."
Cr Sim seconded the motion
After a discussion the motion was lost, those voting in its favour being Crs Millar, Sim, Wedderspoon, and the Mayor", isnd the remainder of the council against. Cr Wilson moved, according to notice— " That the resolution of this couucil under date 21st August, 1896, 'That all surfacing and ofcher works in the borough be let by tender,' be rescinded.
Cr Puilp seconded the motion, which was carried. ■ ; -
