CENTRAL OTAGO BAND CONTEST.

The Central Otago Brass Bauds Conteßt was held at Alexandra on Monday and Tuesday, and ia described by the Alexaudra Herald as a "gigantic success." Mr Stratton was the judge. The contest was a very close one, there being oniy a difference of five points between the three bands—Naseby 75, Roxburgh 73, and Cromwell (with their handicap of 10) 70. The general opinion among bandsmen was that the Roxburgh Band wonld have won had nofc the solo cornet made one sad mistake. The Naseby Band also won the Quickstep Competition witti 32 points, Roxburgh 30 points, Cromwell 25 points. Iv the solo competition T. Leunane (Naseby), won the baritone solo; E. Moore (Naseby), the euphonium solo; W. Kinaston (Roxburgh), the tenor horn solo; H. Moore (Naseby). the cornet solo; and P. Thomas (Cromwell), the bass solo. It, was decided to hold the next contest in N-'».el>v on the third Tuesday and Wednesday of February next year. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the people of Cromwell for initiating these contests.
