TURKEY THREATENS THE GREEK FRONTIER. Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright. Athens, February 17. Colonel Vassos, in a proclamation demanding the surrender of Canea, declares that he is bringing peace and the rule of law to Crete. It was intended to occupy the island in the name of Greece, and he' promised to respect life and property as well as freedom of religion. Colonel Vassos captured Fort Agria, killing many Mussulman defenders and capturing 100 Turkiah soldiers. Colonel Vassos has replied to the protest of the Great Powers, declaring that it was intended to carry out his mission. The Great. Powers have directed the Greek flotilla to withdraw from Crete. ;Ths combined foreign fleets have informed the Greek Consul that any attack on the towns occupied by the mixed forces will be repelled. The Greek Go?erntnenfc have instructed Colonel Vassos not to attack Canea, or come into collision with the Powers in any way. Constantinople, February 17. The Sultan has ordered military measures to be taken on the Greek frontier, and is also calhDg out fnrther regiments of redifs or militia. The operations on the Greek frontier will be conducted under Commander Edhem Pasha. Turkey has decided to leave the Powers to pacify Creta, while Paratheodoro Pasha tormerly Governor of Crete, has been sent to represent Turkish Imperial interests there
