OMNIUM GATHERUM.

NEWS AND GOSSIP. Miss Reid, late teacher at; the Pomahak*. School, entered upon her duties at the Ashley Downs School yesterday. The Gazette contains notifications of the insolvency of a dentist, two sheepfarmers, a baker and storekeeper, a carpenter, a storekeeper (Chinese), a coach proprietor, a cycle espert, a cabinetmaker, and a puntaan. A "clerk in holy orders" in the Taranaki district- is turning his attention to inventions. He has deposited rA the Patent Office provisional specifications for "an invention for improvements in cycles" and for "an invention for an improved xsrocess in freezing and thawing meats." I Now on, stocktaking sale, Clothing Factory, I Octagon.—Advt. r Another " clerk in hoiy orders," who is also a farmer and resides in the North Island, has applied for letters patent for "an invention for the dressing of fruit trees for blight." Of 4-7 applications for letters patent, of which particulars are given in the Gazette, no fewer than 11 have reference to inventions for improvements in cycles. Readers will be struck with the bargains offered in boys' good colonial suits, 43 lid to ; 10s lid each, and fitting three to twelve years of age, at the Clothing Factory, Octagon. Advt. The Dualop tyre has undoubtedly proved itself to be the most comfortable and reliable tyre on esfcth, and is essentially the only tyre which will stand the wear and tear of New Zealand roads. It is guaranteed for 12 months, and can be procured everj where.—Advt. Applications have been made by Otago residents for letters patent for " an invention for a vratsr-inspirator, for raising heated water from a boiler to a cistern, bath, or rose for shower bath," for "an invention for an improved garment for underwear," for "an invention for improvements in doable doors," for an inventioa for an improved implement for thinning i turnips and for like operations," and "for an ! invention for a portable hydraulic - suction dredge." Consequent upon the decision of Mr Justice j Williams in the case of Brinsley and Shack, lock, which was tried in the Supreme Conrt las!; year, Mr H. E. Shickloek, of thus city, has applied for leave to amend the specification of letters patent granted to him in 1887 for an invention entitled "locked and curved furnace mountings." The Hyde correspondent or the Naseby paper states that a rather amusing incident occurred there on the occasion of the last conrt sitting. A Dunedin solicitor, after hurriedly finishing a. case which he was conducting, found himself with too little time to walk to the station. So without a "by your leave " ha wss cm to the first horse tied to the court fence, and away before the owner could s&y " with pleasure." The lawyer was followed belter skelter down the street by the owner, with the result that, the former w»b presently overtaken, and hot words followed from the indignant owner with a prospect, it was whispered a few days ago, of an action at law. Another big surprise is the cheapness of the gentlemen's superior underwear, hats, and ties, which must be seen to be realised, at Clothing Factory, Octagon.—Advfc. My little boy, when two years of age, was taken very ill with bloody flux. I was advised to use Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy, and luckily procured part of a b9ttle. I carefully read the directions and gave it accordingly. He waa very low, bui slowly and surely he began to improve, gradually recovered, and is now as stout and strong as ever. I feel snre it saved his life. I never can praise the Remedy half its worth. I am sorry every one in the world does not kno^i hew good it is, as I do.—Mrs Lina S.
