SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The ordinary meeting of the Arthur street i School Committee was held at tha school la?.t j evening; present—Mes3ts G. Simpson (in the chair), A. Strathers (secretary), A. Buri (treasurer), R. Mason, P. Bl'Gregor, H. Crawford, B. Cameron, A. Sligo, and the Rev. L. J. I Harrison. The head master reported that the ' school was opened on. the Ist iugt. with about I the usual attendance. The kiudergzrten opened ' with 25 pupils. It was resolved that the school I picnic be deferred till about breaking-up time, I the head master recommending this cour?e| ; no suitable day being immediately available. 1 The Visiting Committee reported having found I the work iv the school going on smoothly and j satisfactorily. Accounts amouuving to £28 14-3 lOd were passed for paymeii';. | The monthly meeting ot tap. George slreel; j Scaooi Committee, held Jaai; night, was attended j by Messrs C. Haynes (chairman), R Coghill i R. C. Moore, F. Parker, C. Carter, S. Thomp- ; son, and W. F. Browne. Apologies for non- ! attendance were received irom Messrs A. ' Thomson and F. Peake. The head master I reported that thera were now 800 children 011 1 the roll. The chairman, the secretary, and Mr j Coghiil wero appointed a subcommittee to | make arrangemcuts for the annual picnic, : which ifc was decided should bs held-st Wai- ' kouaiti on the 26th inst;. The circular from ! the Education Board enjoining teachers to refrain as far as possible from taking part actively or publicly in political affairs was received without discussion. At a special meeting of the Albany street School Committse la3t night, at which all the members were present, the secretary reported that arrangements were bein/j satisfactorily carried one in connection with the picnic at Paketerabi on Tuesday, the lG:h inst., the special train for which will leave the Pelichet I Buy railway station at 9 a.m. The secretary's 1 action ;n postponing the opening of the school I till Monday, the 15bh inst., was approved of j unanimously. ! The_ monthly meeting cf the Mornicgton j School Committee, heldlasc night, was attended j by Sleaars Joachim (chairman), Horsburgb, ! Webb, Arnold, Mearns, and Reynolds; while j an apoiogy was received from Mr Harvey for I his absence. Accounts amounting to £36 9s Gd were passed for payment. The head master reported, that the school opened on February I—average attendance, 4-70 ; number on the toll, 525.
