BENEFIT TO MR L. J. LOHR.

A benefit to. Mr L. J. Lohr, the populai [ theatrical agent, was the attraction at the ! Princess Theatre on Saturday evening. Ths I popularity Mr Lohr so deservedly enjoys is not alone confined to the members of the theatrical professien ; on the contrary, the esteem which is entertained for him by the public generally is oi such a character as to have earned for him .the j euphonious title of "The.Genial Lohr.". Taking 1 advantage of a somewhat protracted stay in the city a number of local amateurs conceived the idea of tendering him a complimentary benefit performance. The project was very hurriedly pui j into opsratioa, but notwithstanding the hasty preparations a great many tickets were disposed of. The programme was an attractive one, and I included the names of some of, our leading amateur performers. A.comedietta, iv one act, entitled " A Happy Pair" opened the proceeding?. The paris Were taken by Miss Lillian Chester and Mr Al. Burton, who both . achieved ; distinct success, the little play being received with many manifestations of approval A number of musical and othur items were then proceeded with, and such was the, pleasure derived from the contributions of those'present that frequent demands foi encores were'made, but as tho programme was somewhat lengthy the';'compliment in most instances was;acknowledged with a bow. Miss RosoßlarteV sang "When we meet," Mr Harrj Smith " The Gallants of England," Miss X Jacobs "Espanita'Vand, "Fiddle and I" (the Utter beins an 'encore number). Miss E. Leech ■When the heart is young," Mr W. Farquhni Young "The Gladiator," Mr J. T. Steirstr! recited " Kissing Cup's Race," Mr K. R. Sincocli How we beat the favourite," while Mr ]£. I', Willconks gave the Shakespearian ; burlesque "The "Wooden Gun." The concluding act of the comedy-drama "Brow for Bl^w " formed a capital finale to the entertainment, the characteis being effectively sustained by Miises Rose Blaney. Kmily Moss. M.
