SHOOTING AT AND WOUNDING A BOY.

A MAN ARRESTED

A mkn named Loais Parlett, a bache'.or, liviDg at F&irfield, near, Green, Island, was brought to the Dunedin police station yesterday evening by Constable O'Sallivan, on a charge of deliberately shooting a boy 14 years of »ge, named James M'lvor. From • the information in the possession of the police authorities, the shooting appears to hate been done with little provocation on the part of the boy. It appears that esrly yesterday afternoon Purlett was in a house at Fairlleld in the company of two men namtd John Anderson and James Ramsay,* when tho boy came up to the place and peered through the window. He cried but to Farlett, " Hallo, long iellow." Parlett piclted up a singls-barrelled shot-gun, saying, "I'll put a bullet or a shot through him," and goicg outside fired at the lad, tiis shot with whieu the firearm w»s charged lcdging in the boy's leg. Dr Will was at once fient lor, and, arriving BOrne time afterwards, attended to the boy, whose l«g is in a very bad state. Dr Will ouly succeeded in extractiug three pellets, and as it is evident that most of the charge struck tha boy's leg there is a certain amount of daut?er, though from prasent appearances it is believed the boy wiil make a good reoorory.

A message hiring been despatched to the police, Constable O'Snllivan promptly arrived aud arrested Parlett'. The prisoner was brought to Duneiiin last evening and lodged in the lookup. He will appear before the court this morning, but probably a remand will be asked for.
