SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The ordinary meeting of the Ravensbourne School Committee was held in the sohoolhouse on Monday evening, tbe Rev. Mr Ash presiding, and Messrs Jack, Henderson, Forrester, M'Cullocb, and , Minn being present. An apology was received from Mr F. G. Cray. In the matter of corporal punishment it was unanimously resolved—" That in tho opinion of this committee the regulations are unnecessary and uncalled for." Mr Reid reported for tho month of September as under': —Number on roll: Bojs, 109; girls, 107 ;—total, 216. Average attendance: Boys, 100 ; girls, 96; — total, 196. In tho matter of kindergarten work, it was resolved to let it stand over until a dt-finite,-reply .wss "received from the board. Penny savings bank report:—Deposits, £5 3i 6.1; withdrawals, £1 lis ;—total deposits, £185 0s 3d ; depositors, 169. The treasurer of the bank wiabed the jchoolmaster and his stiff to ocess:oaally notify, the children tbat such, an institution was in existence, to awaken more intereit in the concern, so that its usefulness ihould be more widely extended.
Tbe regular monthly meeting of the Kensington School Committee, held last night, was attended by Messrs Clark (chairman), Puddy, Bridgman, J. White, R. White, Shacklock, and M'Gill. Mr Puddy was welcomed back after a rather- Bevere illness. The Education Board's circular relatiqg to corporal punishment:,was read, and fully discussed, members expressing themselves strongly averse to the proposals, maintaining that no such regulations Bhould bs in force. The committee, however, agreed to approve of certain sections, but considered the ethers unnecessary. A complaint was made by the janitor that certain youths not attending the school bad, oa Sunday night week, about 8 o'clock, thrown stones on the roof of the school and had damaged the fence and rung the school bell. The committee resolved that the culprits be cautioned and the clerk be instructed to notify the patents that such conduct if repeated would lie punished by action being taken against the boys. Accounts amounting to £19 odd were passed for payment, and several small, works authorised to be done.
