TAILORESSES' UNION.
.o At a meeting of the Dun-din Tailoresses' Union held last evening, tho following report was unanimously adopted :— Dunedin, October 9,1893. The Committeo and Members N.Z. Federated Tailoresses' Union, Dunedin. , Ladies and Gentlemen, —Supplementing our letter of sth inst., we have mui'.h pls_sure iv drawing your attention to the improvement in your finances, which id shown by a comparison of the j at-t-in.ut of receipts and expenditure of the union fur the six months ended 31st-August last with that for the previous period. The siibucripti..ug amount to £!'2il _s 3d as against £19:1 lis 0d for the previous eight months. On the imyiiieuts side it will be seen that while the expenditure for the ei_:Ut months ending 20th February was £204 17s Bd, the amount for the past uix mouths Ims only, been £118 .-< 3d, or a dccreajii at the rite of £67 17s 7d per half-year. By referring to the balance sheet it will also be seotj that, the capital of the union and benefit funds toK-ther amounted to £1-93 6- 2d oa 29th | February lusl- as against £II2S 12s Id on 31st A-Kust, which shows an increase for tho six months of £35 5. lid, or at the rate of about £70 per annum. A» the returns compiled by us explain thomselves, it i- aot necessary to remark further upon tbem biiyoud expreasiui; the opiuion that the bouk. are at present being kept in a very s-tis-fuctory mi-unisr, which, if continued, will effectually previ-t their Kettiug again into the condition I nf confusion in, which we found them in March I lust.—We arc, i&c., ' , Bare, Leary, and Co. j A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the secretary (Miss Kennedy) for the manner in which she had conducted tbe business of the uuion tliii lant half year. After the business of the union bad beeu concluded tbe secretary reqnestsd the president to leave the chair, as the vice-president (MiBS Daly) had a pleasing duty to perform. Mim Daly said: Mr Parch--, for some time
past the members of the union have been desirous of expreasing their gratitude for the time you have devoted as well an tho great interest you have taken iv the welfare -of their union. With this intention, I nm requested to present to you to-night this marble elook. It is given by the members of the union as a mark of tbe esteem in which you are held, and although but few are really aware of tho amount of time you have devoted to the business of the union, especially within this present year, I think I may confidently say that the members are unanimous in thanlriug you for your attention and courtesy as preuidont, We ask you to accept with this small gift our bent wishes for your future. , The clock bore the following inscription :— " Presented to Mr George Purches, as a mark of esteem, by the Dun-din Tailoresses' Uuion." In reply, Mr Poncirus thanked the members for their very valuable present, and stated that he would do his duty in the future as he had in the past. ' '.
