Farther papers relating to ocean mail services were laid on the table to-day. In the correspondence complaint is »ever»l.times made of the slowness of the Monowii and of her being unable to keep the time on the line between Auckland and San Francisco.

The work of erecting tne iron tower on the Cape Farewell Lighthouse is proceeding at a satisfactory rate. The tower, which was made at Anderson's fouudry, Christchurch, is expected to bo in position by Christmas,

Auckland, September 11. The following telegram was sent to the Premier by the employees of the Colonial Sugar Company :—" To the Hoft'.ths Premier, Wellington.—We, the employee's- of the Colonial Sugar Refining Compauy, desire to express our appreciation of the manner in which you have supported our interests by including oar company in the Private Benefit- Societies Bill." At a meeting ef the Knights of Labour the following resolution was carried unanimously:— " That we congratulate the Hon. the Premier upon his success in carrying the Private Benefit Societies Bill, and hope it'will pass the Council successfully."
