ENTERTAINMENTS.

A musical and dramatic entertainment in aid of the funds ot St. Paul's Cathedral was held in St.'Paul's Schoolroom last evening. There was * large attendance, the building baing quite foil. The Huttou Family Orchestra opened the proceedings with selections from Bilfe's " Bohemian Girl," and later on contributed the descriptive march "The Relief of Lucknow." Both pieces wera intcrpfetad in a satisfactory manner, and were thoroughly appreciated MlA. C. Haulon recited, with much dramatic force, " Christmas Morning iutha Workhouse" (G. R. Sims), and an encore being insisted upon he contributed s. Shakesperean recitation, Mi»s Leech narrowly escaped an encore for her rendering of " When the heart is young " ; Miss A. Reid gave a sympathetic interpretation of Piccblomiui's " Sancta Maria" ; Marion's "Love, pray, and rest" was sung with much feeling by Miss Vivian, while Miss Wiseman also created a favourable impression by her singing of "The Star of Bethlehem." Mrs F L. Jones was in excellent; voice, and her number—"By the fountain" —proved a most enjuyabla item. Mr C. B. Bray's solo, " King Davy," was so much appreciated that he was compelled to respond to an encore, fee-added rmmb-r being " The boys ia rod." Mr F. L. Junes secured a recall for his singiog of Somerset's " Echo," while Mr Manßou, who sang " The lifeboat," was no le»s sucoeastu!. The accompaniments were played by Mr T»ylor. Aa amusing comedietta entitled " The Rejected Lovers; or a Man of Forty" formed tbe second part of the programme, and (he charaotrrd were capitally sustained by Misses A. Le Bran and S Young, Messrs E. Cftinpb-11, F. Fraer, and J. Boyd. At the conclusion, Bishop Nevill thanktd the ladies and geulleinen who took part ia the entertainment.

! An entertainment was gWon in the Albany strei-t School Gymnasium last evening in aid of the snhool funds. The Dunedin Mandolin-U-uir.ir Baud played a number of puuular airs ; Mr W. F Young sang "The Longshoreman," auH on being encored gave a recitation, which he hud to supplement by singing " Off to Philadelphia"; Jlh H*le sang "The Batter L»nd"; Mr 8. A. Joel "The outpost," and as an encore "They all love J&ck"; Mr B*ruett " The last muster"; and Mr C Brooks "Ben Bolt." The latter, in response to demands for an encore, also contributed a comic recitation. A series of New Zealand and comic views were also shown by moans of » magic lantern, The aceorap*nim<>iit3 were shared by Mi»s Joel .and Miss B*raett. At the conclusion of too entertainment a vote of thanks to those who took part was carried.
