SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

' The monthly meeting of the Union street ; School Committee was held last night, and attended by Messrs A. H. Sheltoa (chairman), i J. L. Gillies jun., A. Hegget, G. 0. Israel, J. Davis G ffleury, T. Christie, G. Lawrence, and J. Ilislop. The Head Master reported that tho 1 numbers on the roll were'-Boys, 329;. girls, 294 ;-total, 623. The average attendance wasBoys 21)0; girls, 242 ;—total, 532. It was resolved that steps be immediately taken to inaugurate a uenny savings bank. Keports from the janitor, Visiting Committee, and Works Committee were received. The chairman, and head master were appointed to make arrangoinents to celebrate Arbor Day by work in iho garden in the school ground. The Education 1 Board wroto that- their architect had been inrtrneted to submit plans of the proposed gymnasium, the siz* of the building to be bsft by 1 30fc by 16ft high. The plans were approved, with some olishtr modifications. Accounts amounting to £15 18s lOd were passed for payment. The usual meeting of tho Macandrew road School Committee on Monday evening was attended by Mr H. M. Henderson (in tho chair), Mesfirx Rpnnio, Davelin, Dove, Gillies, Dawsett. and Shitckloch. The Head Master reported that the average attendance for the last month was >.n improvement 011 tho previous one. Tho Chairman reported that a number of small works entrusted to the Works Committee had been satisfactorily carried out.
