; . CYCLING. Mr Lawrence Barclay, of the 0.C.C., favoured with fine weather, left the pott office, Dunedin, at 2.53 p.m. on Thursday, 26th inst., with the intention of making a record to Balclutha and at the same time endeavouring to lower hill previous times to Wniholi. and Milton. Leaving here as above stated, he arrived at Waihola at 4.11 p.m., rednciDg his previous record by 4-£min sncV doiDg the distance in lhr 18min; he arrived at Milton in lhr 43min, thus loweripg his former performance by ll^min; and arrived at Balclutha in the splendid time of 2br 37^oiin. The distance from Dunedin to Balclutha being about 53 miles, the average rate of travelling would be about 20 miles an hour, which must be considered a highly creditable performance, the roads in some parts beiDR in anything but good order. The machine ridden was a " Speedwell." W. A. Thomcon, of Oamaru, who recently established a 15-mile record for the colony by tiding from Oamaru to Otepopo in 40min, is at present in Dunedin on his way to the North Island, where he mtend* te try and lower the record from Napier to Wellington. He will probably settle down in the north.
