LAND BOARD.

A special meeting of the Land Board was held in the board's office, Government Buildings, on the 20th inst., when there were presentMessrs J. P. Maitlaad (Chief Commissioner), H. Clark, J. Duncan, and A. M'Kerrow.

Ardgowan Estate.—The chief surveyor forwarded a plan of the subdivision of Ardgowan estate, and submitted schedules of prices ar. arranged by the surveyor. —The plan was approved subject to the following alterations:—School site, section 8-1,10 acres, to be reduced to 5 acres ; and in the case of section 114, marked school site, the board were of opinion, after consulting the Education department, that it was unnecessary t-i reserve the section for a school site, section 84 being sufficient. The prices of sections were agreed to. jPuketapd Estate.—The following applications for leases in perpetuity in the Puketapu estate were approved :—S. J. Wright, allotment 1; Johu Watt, jun.. allotment 2; VVm. Chisholm, allotment 3; D. M'Laren, jun., allotment 5; A. Sutherland, allotment 6; J. Sutherland, allotment 7 ; M. A. Sutherland, allotment 8; R. FleScher, allotment 9; J. Chisholm, allotment 10; Wm. Sutherland, jun., allotment II; A. M'Donald, allotment 12.

Runs 180 and 260b.—1t was resolved that a temporary license under section 116 of the Land Act over Runs IS6 and SKGb be issued to Georse Nichol for one year from the Ist inst., at a rental of £'110, that boing the upset rental. Runs 243 axd 243b.—The board recommended that Mr .Preston's offer of £200 for a temporary license under section 116 of the act to occupy Runs 243 and 243n for one year ba accepted. The usual weekly meeting of the Land Board, held on Wednesday last, was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (Chief Commissioner), W. Dallas, J. Duncan, H. Clark, and A. MTierrow. Mamototo.—James Kealy applied to be allowed to acquire section 23, block XVI, Maniototo district.—Referred to district eneineer.

Table Hill.—Ranger Hughan reported upon an application by J. E. Palmer to lease section 36\ block 111, Table Hill district,—lt was resolved that the section be recommended, for notification at a capital value of lOi par acre. Moeraki. —Hanger Atkinson reported upon an application by Mr Charlss Turner for a license over five acres in section 15, Block XIII, Moeraki district, for bush cutting.—lt was resolved that a license be granted for tbrea years at 3s per acre per annum, with license fee £1 Is. Shotover. —Messrs Baird and Elliot applied for a lease over portion of Run 34, Shotover, knows as "The Island."—Referred to Ranger Mackenzie to report. Waikoikoi.—Mr llobert Hannah applied for section 20, Waikoikoi (village homestead allotment), on lease in perpetuity.—The application was approved. Blackstoxe.—Mr Thomas Spain applied to be allowed to acquire section 13, block XVI, Blackstone district (rural lanrt), without competition.— Tbe application was declined, the land being advertised to be opened shortly.

DuNBiCK.—Mr Thomas Gifford applied to be allowed to surrender small grazing run, section 1. block X, Duuback district.—lt was resolved that the (kivsrnor be recommenced to authorise the commissioner of Crown lands to accept surrender of l«ase, as the lessee was unable to.continue iv occupation of the same at the present rental, which the board considered excessive. In the event of the surrender being agreed to, the board contemplated granting the lessee a three years' license at a. reduced rental, as had been done in several instances on runs adjoining.

Makrewbenua and Dojiet.—Mr David Whittock applied for a reduction of rent on Bmall grazing run, section 5, block XVI, Maerewhenua 'district, and section 1, block XI, Bomet district, on account of mining being carried on on the rim.—Referred to the rauger to report.

Waiposi Hundred. —Mr Thomas Chalmer, on behalf of property-holders on Waipori Hundred, objected to a license being issued to the Waipori Commonage Committee over the land within the hundred. — Consideration of the matter was deferred till April S Buns 12tD 'and 121f.—It was resolved that Mr Hugh Frascr be allowed to erect about two miles of a division fence and also a small woolshed, the cost of which was not to exceed £(.0, in small grazing Runs 12ln and 12li' during the currency of his three years' license, under section 219 of the act, and that he be allowed valuation for same, with-other improvements elfected by him, in the event of runs being opened for settlement at the end of his term of three ears.

TiserHill.—An application by Mr K. M. Phin to surrender small grazing Huns 220 is, 220 c,, £20h, and 220r, Tiger Hill district, was referred to Ranger Hughan for report. Atj application by Mr William Lessk to be allowed to complete purchase of section 6, block I, Tiger Hill district, was approved. Shotover.—The following applications to purchase land held under agricultural loase were declined :—James Hogan, section SG, block XIX, Shotover; Michael O'Brien, section 57, same block.

HioiiFisr.D.—Mr David Kerr applied to be allowed to acquire a portion of Run 235e, HighHold,—it was decided to consider the application when the land was being dealt with.
