MR MORRISON, M.H.R.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —I was corry to hear Mr Morrison contradict himself the other night at Caversham, haviDg rend a very different speech he made in Parliament. Mr Morrison at his meeting said tbat he had strongly supported the Obago Central railway and the co-operative works. I have been reading bis speech in Hansard No. 15, page 608. Mr Morrison speaks thus :—

I should like to know if the Government would bo justified in spending money to create settlement on the Otago Central railway.' In my opinion it would be » misuse of public money. . . The only complaint the men have to make is against the engineer, who, I am afraid, does not treat the men very well. No man has a right to go to the Government and say: " I have been unable to find work, it i« your duty to find me a job." I say that is one of the most rotten doctrines I have ever heard, and it ia an unsound doctrine, and I know that men have been led away by the same phrase. ... 1 do not like to tureateD, but I am prepared to join auv coalition of any section of this House that in prepared to Bee justice done to the match-making industry.

. From the above speech it is quite evident that Mr Morriaon has broken louse from the dumbdog pack, and is prepared, in tho interests of the Cavershsm Match Factory, to turn the Government oat of office. Sash conduct is in keeping with his many broken pledges made to the working msn who secured hia return to Parliament. Mr Morrison was elected pledged to support principles and not party; but we have to bear with him for another session, when he will make room for some person abio to fill the position.—l am, &c ,

Caveraham, March 14-,

Slick,
