The appraisement of pastoral holdings in the western districts now procaeding has emphasised tho destruction wrought by bunny in the back country. The les3ee of Monnt Stewart station, in the far north-west, stated that last, summer ovar 100,000 rabb'.t3' were trappsii and poisoned, but the placa was still completely overran. la five years it had loat 15,000 sheep owiug to ths ravages of the rabbits. The lessees of the majority of tho stations in the north-west testißed that since 1890 the carrying capacity of the runs had depreciated 50 per cent. Tne managar of Oobham Lake station stated that since 1895 the lamb» had totalled 78,000, while the number of dead and missing sheap was 72,000, leaving a net increase in the five years o£ only 6000. The manager of Owrona station said that in the five years the increase of lambs had been 98,000, and the losses by death 84,000. Ia December last the stock inspector reported that the station carried 124.000 shosp, but on mastering it was found the losses had besn 17,000.
