This discuasion was animated. The j pr'.p:jssl to pay £150 out of the home mission fund to the secretary was opposed very strongly by several Auckland representative*. Others contended that the work done for tho home mission by the secretary was more than • equivalent to the amount to ba paid from the fund. The R°.v. Mr Morley warmly appealed to the conference to give the secretary full confidence and deliver him from the perpetual heckling and haggling. The committee's report was adopted with a slight alteration. A letter was received from the local representatives of the Society of Friends sending Christian greetings to the cenference, aud asking the conference to join in a protest against the recent alarming growth in the war spirit, which was entirely opposed to tha spirit of Christ. It W3« resolved to suitably acknowledge the communication. It was decided that Mangawhare be constituted a home mission station. Of circuits due to take married ministers, Wellington was relieved on the understanding, that a further' application he made. I'he new Hastings circuit is to provide for a' married minister. The following had probationers appointed to them : —Hutt circuit, with a grant of £50; Greytown, with a grant of £20. Methvsn is to be a home minion circuit. Alexandra (Otago) is to be constituted a home mission station, and the conference recommends Cargill road circuit to employs home missionary to work the Mosgiel district.
At the evening Bitting it was resolve 4 that- it be an instruction to the Committee on Home Mission affairs that where grants ate made the minimum salary for the minister be fixed. Tha church building and loan fund Teport aud balance sheets were explained and disru'sed at considerable length. The conference decided not to proceed with a plan for. dealing with the whole trust debts of the colony. The report and balance sheets were adopted. In ths cas; of the Oamaru trust debt it was decided th»t the committee pay off the mortgige of £400, making the total amount due to the loan fund £1070. to be paid off by quarterly instalments at the rate of £50 per annum, the trustees also promising to raise £100 every third year by a special effort..
Thie morning the conference breakfast wa.. held, at whioh a number of interesting speeches were made. To-morro n afternoon the members will bs entertained at a picnic.
