Argus.—You bay« not enclosed your card with
your communication. F.A.R.—Appointments to naval cadetships are made by limited competition, with the following exceptions:—Four cadetships are given annually to sons of gentlemen in the colonies, on the recommendation of the Secretary of State for the Colonies. Service cadetship., not exceeding five in any one year, are also given, the cadets- being selected! by the Board of Admiralty. Candidates for cadetships have to undergo an examination, which is conducted by civil service commissioners,- the examinations being held at London and at. Portsmouth on the first Tuesday in June and first Tuesday in . December. A candidate must be not less than 13 nor more than 14J years of age. He must also be healthy and free from any physical defect of body. Candidates are tested in the following subjects :-Arithiaetic, algebra, geometry, English, French, Scripture,- mathe- . matics, Latin, geography, English history, and drawing.
