CASUALTIES.
(Feb United Peess Association. ) ' Auckland, January 6. At the inquest on the boy Sheehan, drowned at the City Salt Water Baths, a verdiot of "Accidentally drowned" was returned. The jury regarded the bathing platform unsafe for uon-animmers. Wellington, January 6a Another scd drowning accident, the third which has happened within ths last few days in the vicinity of • Wellington, happened at Island Bay this morning. The circumstances are that two yonng Jadies, Mi»s Olive Goldfinch, ai;ed about 17, daughter of the lste Mr J. M.'Guldiincb, chiof clerk in' tbe Police department, and Miss Lillie Brown, daughter of Mr S. Brown, Hauarm street, went to bathe off the'rocks along tbe Queen's Drive, about 200 yards distant from the Island Bay Hotel. By some misadventure they both jtot into deep water and sank. The accident was seen by Masters Harold yon JDadelszon and Percy Kinnibiirgh, two Wellington College lada. Yon D*de!szeu went in and eventually succeeded in, bringing»Miss Brown safely ashore, exhausted but alive. Her companion bad sunk out of sight. Young Kionihurgb. dived and renove'red the body of Miss Goldflucb, but although remedies were promptly applied, it was too late to save life. Both ladi showed bravery worthy of the highest commendation. Nblsow, January 6. - Af; Stanley Brook on the 2nd inst. Mary> Annie Biggs, aged 19, received a sunstroke, and died shortly afterwards. Ciiristchubch, January 6. Tbe body of Mrs Hannah Howe was found in the Avon river yesterday morning.' At the inquest a verdict of " Fouod drowned" was returned. There was no evidence to show how she got there, but it transpired that her miiid had been somewhat unhinged of kta. .
