NEWS AND GOSSIP. The lads Conroy and Brown, convicted a 6 Wellington of breaking and entering, have been admitted to probation for six months. A coroner's jary returned a verdict that the Mangapakeh* School, on the Manawatu line, was wilfully set on nre by some person or persons unknown. Price's sawmill, . near Ekerahuna, was destroyed by fire on Saturday night. It is believed that the fire was accidentally caused. On Saturday morning a fisherman, sfc Tfmam, netted in Caroline Bay a fine trout 33in in length, 23in in greatest girth, and weighing 19£lb. . . Mr J. Mill, J.P., presided at the Port Chalmers Police Court yesterday forenooa. Farquhar M'Donald, for drunkenness, was fined 10s, with the usual alternative. Mr Wheelband, of Temuka, had the misfortune to lose his valuable stallion Young T&ieri Tom on Saturday morning owing to an internal injury it received whilst exercising in i paddock. The horse, which was valued at £400, was insured with the Live Stock Company of New Zealand for £100. The usual weekly meeting of the Mornington Wesleysn Bible and Mutual Improvement Society was held on Friday night, when the journal was read by the editor (Miss Hensley), and was freely criticised by the members. The Rev. J; N. Buttle was in the chair. Messrs Alexander Gray and Eonald Gray, of Wallacetown, have just received intimation that the crossbred wool they sent to England this season realised the satisfactory price cf )£d per lb. Making allowance for all charges, &c, they calculate that they have secured 2d more per lb than if they had sold it locally — Southland Times. The quarterly meeting of the Otago Lodge, U.A.0.D., was held in the European Hotel on Wednesday evening last, A.D. Bro. Jas. Ruston in the chair. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. It was resolved to send to Melbourne for fresh plebiscite papers re District Grand Lodge. On the suggestion of Bro. M. Cohen, it was decided to take the necessary steps to establish a benevolent fund. Receipts of the evening £28 10s. INTERESTING DISCOVERY. The American Government has instructed a noted analyst to examine and report upon certain mineral springs, which have been recently discovered to have an extraordinary curative effect in cases of rheumatism and other complaints. A voluminous report has been already laid before the recent Medical Congress, from which it would appear that most marvellous cures have been undoubtedly effected, and the investigation of the Government analyst fs, therefore, looked forward to with great interest. Sequah's Cure is composed ot fee carefully concentrated water of one of these springs, combined with certain botanic extracts, and is therefore a natural, safe, and effectual remedy for all kinds of rheumatism, sciatica, lumbago, kidney disease, pains in the back, and dropsy. It also cures indigestion, biliousness, and constipation.
