With reference to the jjacsjiioß in tha Bon^S'orGcffilSSaS'TfeiScivo "to the"-isspet3-tion of frozen meat, the Premier considers ifc highly desirable as far as this colony is concerned that ths Imperial Government ba informed that shipments under the auepicss^" of the Agricultural department are carefully inspected. He also, considers it ought not; to be possible for any meat to be shipped unless inspected by a Government inspector; and, further, that a small charge should be made on shippers to cover the expenses of such inspection. ■. - A SHOCKING SCANDAL. A shocking scandal has been revealed through the arrest of J. F. Gaanaway, an ex- Congregational minister, for incest. Ifc is alleged that his' unmarried daughter has bores him several children. Gannaway's ■wife is said to be resident in New Zealand. THE SEAHAM COLLIERY FIRE. Sydney, August 26. The fire at the Sea ham colliery bad a strong hold when discovered, and' at the j time of the fall of the roof the main drive was abbze for between 300 and 400 yards. When the roof fell in dense smoke and fonl air made it impossible to check the progress of the flames, and as the fire was burning | fiercely and gaining, ground rapidly it was 3eeu to be hopeless to fight it. All the miners were withdrawn and the pit closed, with a view to smothering ths fire. Dense volumes of smoke are now issuing from the mice. The fire at the Sesuam colliery is still buraing, and 250 men have been thrown but of work. The position of the fire causes a suspicion that it is the work of' an incendiary. . BUSH FIRES. Heavy westerly gales are causing destructive bush fires in the coaatal district*. THE WOLLQNGONGFIRE. The insurances on the Wollongong fire is about L3OOO. The National and New Zealand offices have several lines.
