■,-] Tha body of a man namsd William Less, 67 years of■<age, waa: found in the mill dam at Mosgiel about "half-past 7- o'clock yesterday morning.l .-The deceased,:had. gone to visit ,a friend,-who was rill, on Thuwday, and started to return home-to the Mosgiel-Factory about 7 o'clock in the evebi.-.g. • He was then evidently stupid; frorathe eifrtcts of ■ liqnor; ■ atffl was seen later on going towards his house. Search was made for him;-but-he could'not'ba found on Thursday nighty '■ Yeafcerdiiy'morniag, however, the body was found-in the dam;- death being evidently cangedibyedrowningv for there were no marks of violence. At the inquest on the body found in the harbour nothing was adduced as to the identity,and an open- verdict; was returned} The deceased appeared'to be a merchant; seaman, and it is supposed he either fell in the water whehgoing off'to a Horns vessel or el3e that he was drowned iaVsei and that the body, was washed in"; bub the former seema moro probable, ; as a bottle of liquorwas found.in his pocket.
