Tfeey were going forth ready and eager for the work before them. He thanked Lord Hopetonn, the-former Governor, for the coansel and advice he had given them, and'wu resolved tq follow his predecessor's steps. Lord Rjpon said that he hoped the coloniea would maintain the Governors' salaries and thus facilitate the selection of suitable men.
