THE KNIGHTS OF LABOUR TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,~l would call the attention of s. person who writes in your issue of June ,1 over the signature "A Melbourne Knight" to the. fact that the present Government were' returned by the Liberal-Labour party at the last-, general election pledged to a certain line of policy, arid it is to the successful carrying out of that policy that the Otago assembly express their approval. Of course "Melbourne Knight" admits hia inability; to understand where the success comes in. Well, Sir, that is because he is evidently a neophyte in politics—although, judging from his letter, a thorough expert in BillingHgate. That the Dunedin knights have gone back oh the .Government policy which they so loudly applauded at the last elections is a well-known fact, and they now advocate a State bank and paper money ad liHHvm as a means o£ ushering in the good time coining. Of course timir object is simply to harass the Government, and I have no doubt that the electors ,aro sensible enough to see through their paltry tricks. We have a, Liberal Government honestly bsnt on legislating in the interests of labour, and they ,ara actually moviog in the direction of a State bank ai. the present time as fast a« wißdoih and prudence will admit. That the members of the Dunedin assembly are furious at the forming of the Ofcfigo assembly is a well-known fact. Of course it completely upst-ts theri little plans, and although in their vexation of spirit they have tried many questionable expedients of late, yet it is only labour in vain—their mafia has departed.

And in conclusion I would remind " Melbourne Knight" that his offensive remarks about the personnel of the O'agb assembly are beneath oraitempt. Le!; hira append his name the next time that he pours out his vials of malignant bitterness so that ,we may become batter acquainted with this mighty censor from " MsrveDou* " Melbourne,—l am, &c, Dunedin; June 1; Alert.
