(Peb United Press Association:) Auckland, June 1. Tho municipal authorities have received from Sir George Grey for the Free Pnblic Library a case of valnable.works comprising 242 volumes. These include Voltaire's and Goethe's complete works, 19 volumes by Italian authors, and works by about 100 other writers.
The bakers have raiaed the price of bread ii per 21b loaf.
Wellington, June 1. When the case of Charles "Waters, charged with having committed bigamy in London in 189 L, came on in fie Ma<ri-trnte's Court to-day, Mr Martin, the sttpffudiary magUt;s.te, said he still doubted whether he had jurisdiction in the matter, the alleged offence having taken place in England, and therefore he would net commit accused for trial,. Mr Jollicoe's course' was a simple one. All he had to do was to apply to the Snpreme Court for a mandamus to compel him (Mr Martin) to send the case for trial. Eventually the matter was adjourned till Monday to enable his Worship to further consider the arguments submitted by counsel.
