Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. OBITUARY. Melbourne, June 2. 'The death is announced of Dr A. Dobsoh, M.L.C., brother of the Chief Justice of Tasmania. THE VICTORIAN TARIFF. A manifesto has been issued by the Protection Association and representatives of industries affected protesting against many of the recommendations of the Tariff Commission. It was also decided to schedule tho recommendations and objections, and these will be forwarded to all memoers of the Legislative Assembly as the tariff of each trade comes before Parliament. TH3 ADVANCE IN WHEAT. Adelaide, June 1. The South Australian Register dealing with the advance in wheat says that numerous factors apart from the capricons influence of crop reports are combining to bring about a.better tone; and are generally suggestive of the rise being something more than a passing fluctuation of a sensitive market. A LOCAL LOAN. A new local loan of L 300.000 at 3£ per cent, will be issued at par, and ha'"ye a currency of 25 years. The loan will be issued either in bonds or inscribed stock. A DEFAULTER. . . . Sydney, June 1. Ercest Henry • Flewellyn, late Paymastsr of the Naval forces, has been sentenced to three years for larceny. His defalcations totalled between L2OOO and L3OOO. ! FLOUR DESTROYED BY FIRE. ■ June 2. The East snd May mill, Tamora, in which a .very large stock of flour was stored in anticipation of a rise, has been completely destroyed by fire. Tbe damage is estimated at between L4OOO and LSOOO, The property was owned by the Joint Stock Bank, for | which the National Insurance Company- of I New Zealand have a line of LI7OO.
