Higguis'e house, occupied by. Alfred Harvey,.bootmaker, was insDrtd for £15 in the Colonial, Harvey being uninsured. Mrs Bull's house aud furniture were insured for £100 in the South' British* and a like amount in the New. Zealand. . Burcheli's house, partly daraag'ed, was insured for £80 io the Phceoir.

H.M.S. .Pyladts, Captain Adams, arrived at Taurahga this" morniisg 'auexpectedly. ■ It was thought at .first it denoted something beiog done at last by the Admiralty authonues to have the old cemetery retaiuiug wall put iv order. Captain Adams, however, states that the Admiralty declined to do anything, and the consequence will be that for the sake of a few pounds spent now tha whole cemetery and wall will go into disrepair worse tbau ever. Captain Adams was received byhis Worship, the Mayor, ■who entertained him a.t luncheon. To-morrow-he .will take the captain aud pariy ont to Gate Pa. At time of the war Captain Adams was middy on board H.M.S. Brisk, so that; the Gat-e Pa aad other local spots are full of old a'sßociations for him. The- PyUdes will leave for "Weiyngton on Saturday afternoon.
. -, , Wkli.ington, May 17. A fire occurred in a rcom of the accountants' branch at the Government luaurauce otiice' iust after 11 o'clock. Foitunntely the night watchman discovered the outbreak in good time, and the fire was confined to the room, more damage bei?g done by vpafcer than f-.ny-Ihing elss: It is supposed to hive been caused by the hot water pipes overheating the woodwork. The building is Uißured for J2£5,000.
