BAPTIST MISSIONARY SOCIETY.

A valedictory and dedicatory service to Miss Beckingsale, missionary designate to India, was held in Hanover street Baptist Church on fche 2nd inst. A public tea took place at 6.30, afc which aboufc 250 people sat down, tho tea being handed round. At the meeting held subsequently there was a large attendance, the church being very nearly full, and Mr John M'Laren occupying fche chair. Addresses were given by the Roy. F. W. Boreham, of Mcsgiel; Mr H. H. Driver, who introduced the missionary and spoke as to the history of the work of the society ; Miss Beckingsale, who gave herreasou for undertaking fche work; and the Rev. A. H. North, who delivered an impressive charge to the missionary. Dedicatory prayer was also offered by the Rev. E. Richards, of the North-East Volley.

Mr H. H. Driver, secretary to the N'Z. Baptist Miosionary Society, in his remarks mentioned that; tbe society was formed 10 yeara ago, and during the nine years of its existence it bad raised for foreign missions the sum of £5877, or an average of £653 a-year. Ifc had employed nine European agents, of whom one had died, three resigned, and. five remained. * It had in training three missionary evangelists, and one medical missionary. Its sphere of operation was north Tipperah. which contained a population of 700,000 inhabitants. Its headquarters were Brshmanbaria, and its selected out-station was Chabpore. Misa Beckingsale was the fourth lady who had gone out from Hanover street Baptist Church. She had had two years' medical nursing in the Dunedin Hospital, and would proceed to Edinburgh for further special training, and was expected to proceed fco Calcutta at the end ef the year.

A number of hymns were-sung by the choir during the evening.
