OPENIKG OF A CHURCH AT WAITATI.
The new! Roman Catholic Church at Waitati was opened' yesterday by the Very Rev. Father O'Leary, Fathers Lynch and Newport being present. Notwithstanding the disagreeable weather there was a good attendance, a number having travelled from Danedin in buggies and drags. Mass was celebrated by Father O'Leary, assisted by Father Newport, while Father Lynch preached. The music for the occasion was that of Farmer's Mass iv B flat, the soloists beiug Mrs Saudys and Miss Horan treble, Misa Kate Blaoey alto, Sir E Eager tenor, and Mr W. Woods bass. Miss D. Horan presiding at the organ. Cherubim's "Aye Maria" was also sung by Miss Horan, and an "Aye Maria" by Luzzi was rendered by Bliss Blaney, while Mr Eager saug ''Consider .the lilies how they grow." In the evening vespers were celebrated, the Misses Horan singing as a duet an "O j Salutaris." The church itself is an exceedingly pretty oue. It is 32ft by 18ft, aud is capslila of seatiug 100 persons. The situation is a "most desirable one, iv the. heart of the township, and altogether the building, which has b^ea e'eetel under the supervision of Mr D. W. Woods, should ba eminently suitable for the needs ot the Catholics in the district. The collections duriug the day amounted t-j £50.
