SOUTH DUNEDIN.
The ordinary meeting of the South Dunedin Borough Council, held last night, was attended by the mayor (Mr W. Wardrop), Crs Fisher, Jiddes, Thomas, Eto'ley, and O'Kane. ' .'•'■■ The Secretary of the United Districts Charitable Aid Board wrote forwarding a return of the persons residing in the borough who wera in . receipt ot charitable aid, and asking that the council examine the same and inform him if there were any cases recorded in'the return in \rhlch relief was, in the opinion of the council, uncalled for.—Or Thomas moved—"That this council know but little about the list, and that •what they do know is not very commendable." Or Fishbr seconded the motion, which was carried. It was also resolved, on the motion of Cr FISHER, seconded by Cr O'Kanb—" That the clerk write to the trustees of the Benevolent Institution asking them to kindly inform the council why .they did not comply with the council's request with regard to the relief of the Coates family." The Finance Committee recommended that £11 0s 3d for municipal accounts, £2 fe lid for water supply, and £16 13s 4d for sanitary accounts be passed for payment.—Adopted. . o The General Oommitteejrecommended that bylaw No. 2, part 1, clause 9, be amended by striking out all words after," or in the fourth line, and inserting " at the north-east junction of the Cargill road with Main road with the horses' heads towards the south-west, and that one vehicle be allowed at a time to remove to the junction of the west side of Main road with Cargill road, with the horses' heads pointing towards the north, the : horses' heads not to extend beyond the building line." ■ • . .■ . ■ .. f: "■ \ . ■■-. ■ ; The Inspector of Works reported that there wa'aj a yery bad breakdown in the big; drain .below the railway. He had got it fixed up temporarily, but I here were a good many inside planks which required to be placed in position. The open box was very much torn up with the high tides and winds", and he required some new timber and a man ,for a day or two to repair the box.—lt was resolved that the inspector be authorised to attend to the work. It was decided that the inspector be instructed to visit those premises where he has reason, to "believe that the water is running to waste.1
