The ihonthty. meeting of the Port Chalmera District High School Committee was attended by Messrs Morgan (chairman), Gardner; Kettle, Cook, Thomson, Walker, Mill, and Ness. Mr Rennie, the newly-appointed rector, reported : that be had taken charge of the school on the Ist inst., the roll number for the week was 694 and the average 5iH. He regarded the attendance of several families as tinSatiffatitoxy, but would report more definitely shortly.' He pointed out the difficulty of maintaining perfect organisation, as there was not a classroom for every standard, Standards I and VI being at preseat taught in the same room. The committee's attention was called to the fact that the rectory was much too small for Mr Rennie's requirements, and the secretary was instructed to bring the matter before the Education Board, the committee considering the request reasonable. Consideration ot the truancy question was postponed. Complaints having been made of the drinking water being impure, the Visiting Committee were directed to pay special attention to thia matter and report. It was resolved that another letter be written to the Education Board pressing their claims for monetary assistance, and Messrs Morgan, Cook, and Mill were appointed to wait on the board in reference to the claim. Messrs Ness and Gardner were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month.
