Drunkenness. —One first offender was convicted aud discharged, and James Pahey, against whom there were 12 previous convictions, was lived 53, with the alternative of 24 hours' imprisonment.
Larceny —A youth, aged 16 years, named Thomas O'Brien pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing, on the 13th inst., at Dunedin, a portmanteau containing clothing, of the total value of £3 10a, the property of Harry Ernest Benuctt.—Detective M'Grath, who conducted the prosecution, stated that complainant and accused were passengers by the steamer Anglian, and on arrival here accused was to have taken the portmanteau and clothes down George street, but in place of doing so he kept them, and was subsequently found wearing some of thfl stolen apparel. The accused, when arrested, had told him (the detective) that he had been without food all day.—The Probation Officer stated that he knew nothing about th« accused, and in order that, he might make inquiries the case was adjourned to Tuesday nest.
