SIGNS OF THE TIMES.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sib,—Nelson at Trafalgar, William at Sedan, Jabez Balfour at Salt*.—each of these events marks an era in European history, if I mistake not. The first the triumph of the British sailor, tha second that ef the German soldiers, the last that of the Joint Stock Company tiddly-winker.
Jabez B&lfour haa defied the British law and the British Empira, aud the British Conaiil after laying siege to him for a year at Salta has raised the siege, and Jabez is ths victor. That is what a century of peace at sea has culminated in. The greatest rogue of thoaßO haa defied all laws of God and mm and laughs in his sleeve. It is time there was a change, and again, if I mistake not, there will be— The day of the Lord ie athaad—at hand. It's storms roll up the sky. The day of the Lord is at band—at hand. All dreamers toss and sigh. True hearts will leap up at thetrumpetof Go 3, In the day of the Lord at haud—-at hand ! —I am, &c, January 18. • Bulldog.
