THE COLONY'S REVENUE.
STATEMENT BY THE TREASURER.
Wellington, January 20,
With reference to the telegram sent last Friday that the New Zealand Times pUcad the deficit for nine months at £84,173, Mr Wird sands the following memo, to the Press Association: —"I may state that the condition of the finances clearly indicate there is nothing in the announced deficit. The feet is apparently overloekad thst in computing my estimate for tiw year 1894-95 I reduced the estimated receipts by £133,538. The receipts of every department except the railways and customs are in excess of the actual amount received last year, and I have no hesitation in saying that my forecast wiil be fully realised. The excesses from various departments will, I feel Bure, more than make up the estimated shortage from railways and customs."
Tha dead body of Luke Huschorff was found in the Tataeknri river, near Puketapu, on the 12th. At the inqtyjit an open verdict was returned.
