MINING.
The Cromwell Argus reports that on the Bannockburn, Park, H'Gregor, and party washed up about a fortnight ago with satisfactory results. Tocher and Renshaw, in Pipeclay Gully, also cleaned up last week, and we understand that their claim paid good wages. Several smaller washings-up took place, with, on the whole, favourable results. At Quartz Beef Point Messrs Hayes and Chapman cleaned up for 14 weeks' work, driving iv their claim, and got about 720z. The tributera of the Cromwell Quartz Mining Company cleaned up their crushing on Monday, and were most agreeably surprised in the result. They hardly expected more than 80pz or SOoz, and were delighted with their cake of 15:!oz. Letters have been received (suys t.h« Auckland Herald) by the secretary of the Coolgardie syndicate (Mr K. C. Greenwood) from Messrs Gbodall, C.E., and E. T. .Firth, from Coolftardie, dated. 21st November, relative to their movements and prospecting operations. They say: "We have purchased two good camels, engaged an Afghan camel driver, and secured the services of Mr W. A. Hunt, of Shotover (Thames), fame to accompany us in our first tour. Air Hunt proposed to join us, and in engaging him we consider it a great advantage. His proposition is to prospect between Lake Lefroy aud Uundas. We bad already formed a resolution to begin in the same district, so that wn were glad that our id'ias coincided. "We start to-moriow morning, and expect to be away about iix weeks or two months, and shall likely travel 120 miles south from here. The district we are going to has not been much prospected, but a good many mines have been found there, yielding good dollying stone, and should we be fortunate enough to get a rise there the advantages will be great, on account of its proximity to Eaperance Bay for access for machinery and other supplies. Should we not prove fortunate Dear Dundas we propose to return here, outfit again and proceed to Jlenzie's find, beyond the Ninety Mile, return to the Forty-five mile, and work through Hack Flag, White .Feather, and Hainan's. That will be an extended trip. It is generally considered that a well equipped party, such as ours, has a good chance of success, but the ' finds' have not been plentiful of late.''
