ARRIVAL OF THE R.M.S. KAIKOURA.

The R.M.S. Kaikoura, from London, via T-neriffe, Capetown. Hobart, Wellington, and Lyttelton, arrived off the heads early yesterday morning, and was boarded by Pilot M'Donald, steaming into port and berthed at the George street pier at 9 a.m., when she at once commenced to take in cargo for London, consisting of cases cheese, wool, Ac. The Kaikoura is under the command of Captain Forbes, but since her last visit here there iiaa been a change in the personnel of her officers. Mr R. Jaggard w now chief, Mr H Kiddle second, Mr A. W. jil'Kellar third, and Mr E. Terry fourth; chief engineer, Mr J. i>. Black; surgeon, Dr E. J. Goode ; and Mr Janies Murray is steward in charge, to whom we are indebted for the following report of the passage out from London: — , , j The Kaikoura left the Royal Albert docks on October IS, called at Plymouth, and alter embarking her mails and passengers, left again at 3 pm. on the 20th. Shortly after leaving a heavy S.W. gale sprang up, wnich continued to arrival at Teneriffe, causing the vessel to be one day late, after a stay ot nine hours she proceeded on her voyage at 8 p.m. oa October 26, experienced light variable aud S.E. winds until reaching lai 16 S., when she met strong S.E. trades an ' high aea to arrival at Capetown at 3 p.m. on November 11, remained there for eight hours, which allowed the passengers to have a run on shore, when another start was made against head winds, the duration of which was unprecedented in the minds of the most experienced on board, continuing until she reached lat. 47 long. 100 E, rhereby causing the vessel to be further delayed. From lat. 47 S. she had favourable winds from W. to S.W., which held to arrival at Hobart at 9 a.m. on December 2; landed 32 passengers aud SO tons cargo, and left again at 7 a.m. on the 3rd ; had a favourable run across, and reached Wellington on the 7th : discharged cargo and passengers, leaving again on the lltn, reached Lyttelton on the following day, discharged balance of her cargo, and sailed again on the afternoon of the 20th, and arrived as above. During the passage from London to Wellington the pasceu"ers, all of whom enjoyed excellent health, indulged in the usual amusements, concerts, dances, and sports.
