RIFLE COMPETITION.
I The Portobello Rifle Club held the third j competition for prizes on Thursday. Ranges 200, 300, and 500 yards. The first contest took place at the same time for the New Zealand Rifle Association's bronze medal—ranges 200 j and 500 yards; seven shots at each distance. The wind was very biffling at the long range. The following are the highest scores :—
First Glass.—Mr John Christie, 75; Mr R. C. Ken-, fi3; Mr .T. Kerr, GS; Mr P. Ryan, 61; Major M'Cartney, 59 ; Mr \V. A. Wilson (4 points J handicap), 01.
Second Class.—Mr S. T. Wilson, 59 ; Mr C. Johnston, 52; Mr W. Morrison, 49; Mr John Cross, 40; Mr C. Morrison, 31.
Bronze Medal.—Mr John Christie, CO ;MrR. C. Kerr, 'IS; Mr John Kerr, 45; Major M'Oartney, 45 ;Mr i l. Ryan, 41; Mr W. A. Wilson. 40 ; fltr J. S. Seaton, 40.
— The bullfrog, by a peculiar arrangement of his lifyiix, has a bass drum in his throat.
